Who We Are

MBDA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce that helps to create and sustain U.S. jobs by promoting the growth and global competitiveness of businesses owned and operated by minority entrepreneurs. Through a national network of  MBDA Business Centers (Yes! You have one here in El Paso) and a wide range of domestic and international strategic partners, we provide Agency clients with technical assistance and access to capital, contract, and new markets opportunities to create new jobs.

The El Paso MBC also provides valuable research & development, allowing clients to access local and national demographics and statistics, and assisting in marketing analysis and research. We provide assistance to qualified businesses to obtain valuable business certifications, thereby increasing the number of certified businesses for procurement opportunities; and enhancing the ability for growing minority owned businesses to compete for procurement contracts for corporations, local, state, and federal agencies; and provide hands-on bilingual technical assistance to support new markets for small and minority owned businesses.  

Since March 31, 2018, we have served 65,116 clients through counseling and training. Through our direct technical assistance, our business development specialists have successfully packaged $462,090,411 in small business loans and we have successfully matched our clients to over $1,439,341,131 in procurement opportunities!  The Chamber currently operates an SBA Women’s Business Border Center, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s MBDA Business Center, and we are a Texas Department of Transportation DBE Alliance Program Partner.  We have directly assisted 30,148 entrepreneurs in starting their own business, and have worked with over 33,775 existing businesses to continue to grow!
